MOTION’s context lies in sustainable tourism in five EU regions: Toruń, Poland; Granada, Spain; Klaipeda, Lithuania; Fehmarn, Germany; and Rovaniemi, Finland. The project addresses overtourism problems, such as overcrowding, tourism’s problems with residents, environmental & heritage degradation, and low-quality experiences.
The aim of the project is to develop solutions for top tourist destinations that suffer from mass tourism (e.g. UNESCO World Heritage Sites ). The focus is on protecting the locations and their environment.
Six project partners, Laurea UAS, Kiel UAS, Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, University of Granada, Klaipėda University and municipality of Monachil, form a strategic partnership to create awareness leading to actions to combat overtourism issues.
MOTION organizes five Intensive Study Programs during the lifecycle of the project. ISPs are intensive weeks where both teaching, learning and developing activities are incorporated.
